In this article, we take forward sociological ways of knowing care-in-practice, in particular work in critical care. To do so, we analyse the experiences of staff working in critical care during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK. This paper reports on research which has explored essential requirements for pedagogies of hope, including the expansion of teachers’ semiotic knowledge.
