  • Holocene sea-ice conditions and circulation at the Chukchi-Alaskan margin, Arctic Ocean, inferred from biomarker proxies

    Open Access•Leonid Polyak, Simon T Belt et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Cited by: 3•References: 13

Two sediment cores from the Chukchi Sea margin were investigated for the Arctic sea-ice biomarker IP 25 , along with marine and terrestrial sterols and glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (GDGTs). This is the first paleoclimatic application of IP 25 in the Chukchi-Alaskan region of the Arctic, which is key for understanding Arctic–Pacific interactions and is experiencing rapid sea-ice retreat under present warming. Sea-ice and related circulati…

  • A comparison between multiproxy and historical data ( ad 1990–1840) of drift ice conditions on the East Greenland Shelf (~66°N)

    Open Access•Montserrat Alonso‐García, Montserrat Alonso-García et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 7

The reduction in sea ice along the SE Greenland coast during the last century has severely impacted ice-rafting to this area. In order to reconstruct ice-rafting and oceanographic conditions in the area of Denmark Strait during the last ~150 years, we conducted a multiproxy study on three short (20 cm) sediment cores from outer Kangerdlugssuaq Trough (~300 m water depth). The proxy-based data obtained have been compared with historical and instru…
