Thomas Hobbes's strict monistic materialism led many contemporaries to believe he must be an atheist-to hold God to be a corporeal being, they claimed, was effectively to deny his existence. This paper is an addition to those works suggesting that Hobbes's belief in a corporeal God must be taken seriously. Social outcomes are analyzed either by placing responsibility for those outcomes on the individual or to locate the cause in a specific social factor – discrimination. Here, I argue that individual decision-making cannot be the cause of poverty, illustrative of one outcome, and that commentary specifying a particular social factor is insufficient to address the fundamental, underlying cause of poverty. Endogamy among Louisiana Cajuns
This study employs 1990 U.S. Census data to examine possible sources of a high rate of endogamy among Louisiana Cajuns. It suggests that a continuing high level of in-group marriage in this ethnicity is surprising, given the group's long residence in the U.S., the ethnic diversity of southwestern Louisiana, and the group's cultural assimilation. The study uses logistic regression to examine predictors of endogamous or exogamous marriage patterns …
