  • Co-designed and co-delivered place-based community interventions to reduce inequity in early initiation of antenatal care

Open Access•Angela Harden, Meg Wiggins et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2026•Cited by: 1•References: 24

BACKGROUND: Early initiation of antenatal care provides timely screening, advice and support. Inequities in early care initiation exist in high-income countries, but there is scant evidence on effective interventions. The community REACH (Research for Equitable Antenatal Care and Health) trial aimed to assess the effectiveness of co-produced place-based interventions to strengthen community support for early care initiation. METHODS: Matched-pair…

Open Access•Jonathan Sterne, Jelena Savović et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ•2019

Assessment of risk of bias is regarded as an essential component of a systematic review on the effects of an intervention. The most commonly used tool for randomised trials is the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. We updated the tool to respond to developments in understanding how bias arises in randomised trials, and to address user feedback on and limitations of the original tool.

Open Access•Helen Killaspy, Stefan Priebe et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2019

Background: Mental health supported accommodation services are implemented across England, usually organised into a 'step-down' care pathway that requires the individual to repeatedly move as they gain skills and confidence for more independent living. There have been no trials comparing the effectiveness of different types of supported accommodation, but two widely used models (supported housing and floating outreach) have been found to provide …

  • Improving the healthcare response to domestic violence and abuse in primary care

Open Access•Alex Hardip Sohal, Gene Feder et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

This is the first interrupted time series analysis of an intervention to improve the health care response to domestic violence. The findings will characterise the impact of IRIS implementation outside a trial setting and its suitability for national implementation in the United Kingdom

  • Standards for Reporting Implementation Studies (StaRI) Statement

Open Access•Hilary Pinnock, Melanie Barwick et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ•2017

Implementation studies are often poorly reported and indexed, reducing their potential to inform initiatives to improve healthcare services. The Standards for Reporting Implementation Studies (StaRI) initiative aimed to develop guidelines for transparent and accurate reporting of implementation studies. Informed by the findings of a systematic review and a consensus-building e-Delphi exercise, an international working group of implementation scie…

    Open Access•Eldridge, Sandra M Eldridge et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ•2016

The Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) statement is a guideline designed to improve the transparency and quality of the reporting of randomised controlled trials (RCTs). In this article we present an extension to that statement for randomised pilot and feasibility trials conducted in advance of a future definitive RCT. The checklist applies to any randomised study in which a future definitive RCT, or part of it, is conducted on …

  • Individual socio-demographic factors and perceptions of the environment as determinants of inequalities in adolescent physical and psychological health

Open Access•Neil R Smith, Daniel Lewis et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

During adolescence perceptions of the urban physical environment, along with the social and economic characteristics of their household, are important factors in explaining patterns of health inequality

  • OP77 Proxy Reporting of Health-Related Quality of Life using the Euroqol-5D in Care Home Residents; how Good is it and how should we Deal with Clustering Effects

A M Devine, Angela Devine et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2013

Background Some care home residents are unable to complete the measures of health utility needed for cost-utility analyses. Proxy measures are an alternative source of data; however, the level of agreement in the EQ-5D between residents and care home staff and the impact of clustering on this agreement has not been investigated previously. Using data nested in a large clinical trial, we aimed to (1) identify inter-rater agreement levels for the r…

  • Socioeconomic status and self‐reported oral health in Iranian adolescents

Open Access•Vahid Ravaghi, Martin Underwood et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Health Dentistry•2012

This study found a graded oral health inequality, but no strong evidence to support the hypothesis that oral health behaviors and psychological factors mediate oral health inequality for self-reported oral health outcomes

  • Identification and Referral to Improve Safety (Iris) of women experiencing domestic violence with a primary care training and support programme

Open Access•Gene Feder, Roxane Agnew Davies et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2011

  • Oedipus

SJC Taylor, Stephen Bremner et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Background South Asians with asthma experience much higher morbidity than whites with asthma in the UK. They also experience worse follow-up in primary care after hospitalisation compared to the white population. Previous trials in mixed ethnicity populations in the US and Europe suggest that: (a) an asthma specialist nurse intervention can reduce unscheduled asthma care; (b) education for physicians can lead to improvements in their patients' as…

  • Multilevel survival analysis of health inequalities in life expectancy

Open Access•Min Yang, Eldridge et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2009

Multilevel survival models are flexible and efficient tools in studying health inequalities of life expectancy or survival time data with a geographic structure of more than 2 levels. They are complementary to conventional methods and override some limitations of marginal models. Future research on determinants of health inequalities in the LE of the specific cohort on the household and individual factors could reveal some important causes over t…

  • Age at Marriage

Kathleen E Kiernan, Kathleen Kiernan et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Sociology•1987•Cited by: 10

Changes in marriage patterns in the United Kingdom over time are reviewed. Each successive cohort of women born between 1920 and 1940 married sooner than the preceding cohort. This trend culminated with the cohorts born in the 1940s all of whom had remarkably similar age at marriage patterns which were the youngest ever recorded since civil registration began. In analysis of the 1946 cohort three factors were found to affect age at marriage direc…
