From individualized mummies to collective accumulations
Side Chamber 3 of Theban Tomb 209 (Luxor) preserves a stratified assemblage of 17 mummified bodies documented in primary or partially primary position, and a secondary deposit of at least 4 individuals dated between the Twenty-Fifth Dynasty and the Ptolemaic period. This study applies an integrated archaeothanatological approach—combining body position, coffin use, stratigraphic relationships, superposition, and material associations—to reconstru…
Fingerprints as indicators of craftworkers' age and sex in a sample of clay ushabtis from TT 209, Luxor, Egypt
This article analyses fingerprints identified on a set of backed clay Egyptian funerary figurines, known as ushabtis. The strata in which they were found dates from the late Persian to the early Ptolemaic dynasties (ca. fifth to third centuries BCE), but the objects might have been made some two centuries earlier, during the Twenty-Fifth Dynasty (ca. 747656 BCE), and then reused for a later burial. The authors propose that fingerprints preserved …

Environmental Conditions in TT 209, Luxor. The Case of a Theban Tomb Subject to Periodic Flooding
TT 209 was built in a wadi, a location that means it has been affected by flash floods since ancient times. The team in charge of its study and conservation has initiated a systematic programme of environmental data collection (temperature and relative humidity) in order to understand the natural conditions of the tomb and any transformations caused by archaeological work in its underground chambers, as well as to inform future conservation. Thes…

The working method is explained, the…
