Graphic Heritage and the Making of Place
This article centers on three retail sites within Walthamstow, East London in the UK – Walthamstow High Street and Hoe Street; Orford Road within Walthamstow Village; and the western end of the High St in the St James area. Each of these sites utilize everyday urban “graphic heritage” – shop front design, colors, typefaces and symbols – in the making of place. However, the graphic heritage contributes to the development of very different “designs…
Urban graphic heritage and the making of place
Having played at Highbury Stadium since 1913, Arsenal Football Club (Arsenal) moved a mere 500 metres to their new Emirates Stadium in 2006. In conforming to a contemporary 'concrete bowl' design, the new stadium lacked architectural distinctiveness. Inadequate assessment of mood disorders, co-occurring substance abuse, and client characteristics are three factors believed to be associated with the overdiagnosis of schizophrenia…

The Neighbourhood Youth Inventory
This paper describes the development and validation of an inventory to uncover youths' experiences in their neighbourhoods. The Neighbourhood Youth Inventory (NYI) was developed from conversations with youths in Grades 7, 9 and 11. This paper reports the psychometric analyses of the NYI. Responses from 934 youths (511 urban, 423 rural) to the NYI resulted in a four-factor solution. This solution was stable across responses from youths in Grades 7…
