Plants and Plant Food on the Failaka Island in the Late Islamic Period. Results of the First Archaeobotanical Investigations at the Kharaib al‐Dasht Site (Kuwait)
This study examines plant‐based foods, their production, foraging and trade, as well as the flora of Failaka Island during the Late Islamic period. Archaeobotanical analysis of charred food remains, fuels and domestic waste recovered from the sediments of the Kharaib al‐Dasht site provides insights into the diet and subsistence economy of the island. Archaeometallurgy in northern Oman—Diachronic copper production on a smelting site in Wadi al‐Salh
Archaeometallurgical studies at the Salh site in northern Oman have provided new data on copper technology in the Bronze Age and Islamic periods. Archaeological results indicate that it may have functioned seasonally. Slag analyses have shown possible technological changes over the centuries. The settlement at Bahra 1 lies in the As‐Sabbiya dessert, Kuwait. The site was preliminarily dated to the Ubaid 2/3 period, with four settlement phases distinguished so far. Phases A–C yielded remains of sturdy stone architecture, while the oldest Phase D was represented by a fire‐pit horizon, as well as thin and low walls, perhaps serving as foundations for light and perishable superstructures. Excavation at the site of Kharaib el-Desht on Failaka Island, Kuwait, began in 2013 and continued in 2015 and 2016.
