  • Isotopic evidence for the reconstruction of diet and mobility during village formation in the Early Middle Ages

Open Access•Iranzu Guede, Luis Angel Ortega et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2018•Cited by: 14•References: 47

Strontium, carbon, and nitrogen isotopes of human bone and tooth remains have been used to reconstruct residential mobility and diet of early medieval populations at Las Gobas from the sixth to eleventh centuries. Most non-local individuals correspond to the tenth to eleventh centuries and were mostly women and infants. This residential mobility coincided with the formation of Laño village and the abandonment of artificial cave settlement. Carbon…

  • Archaeometry of Roman Aquitania-Tarraconensis coarse ware pottery from the northern Iberian Peninsula and southern Aquitania

Open Access•Ainhoa Alonso-Olazabal, Ainhoa Alonso Olazabal et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2018•Cited by: 1

  • The long paleoenvironmental sequence of Santimamiñe (Bizkaia, Spain)

Open Access•Juan Rofes, Xabier Murelaga et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2014

  • Paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the early Neolithic to middle Bronze Age Peña Larga rock shelter (Álava, Spain) from the small mammal record

Open Access•Juan Rofes, Mari Cruz Zuluaga et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2013

The Peña Larga site, a rock shelter on the southern slopes of the Cantabrian cordillera (north Spain), is an archeological deposit covering nearly 4000 years, from the early Neolithic to the middle Bronze Age (Atlantic/Subboreal chronozones). It was used both as a household and as a stable, with a hiatus in the Chalcolithic when it was used as a collective sepulcher. Nearly twenty-eight thousand small vertebrate elements were recovered from its s…

  • Strontium isotopes of human remains from the San Martín de Dulantzi graveyard (Alegría-Dulantzi, Álava) and population mobility in the Early Middle Ages

Luis Angel Ortega, Iranzu Guede et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013

  • Carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes of bone collagen of large herbivores from the Late Pleistocene Kiputz IX cave site (Gipuzkoa, north Iberian Peninsula) for palaeoenvironmental reconstruction

    Open Access•Jone Castaños, Maria Cruz Zuluaga et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013•Cited by: 8•References: 9

  • Historic Lime-Mortar 14C Dating of Santa María La Real (Zarautz, Northern Spain)

Luis Angel Ortega, Maria Cruz Zuluaga et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2012•References: 6

This paper describes a method for effective separation of the pure binder fraction of lime mortars for reliable radiocarbon dating. The methodology allows removal of the detrital carbonate fraction and the unburnt limestone particles, obtaining particles of under 1 μm. The extracted fraction ensured that all carbonate has been generated by slaked lime carbonation. Consequently, the measured carbon corresponds to atmospheric carbon. The proposed m…
