Assessing the Career Mobility of U.S. Army Officers
This article examines the promotion patterns of U.S. Army officers using data collected on officers serving on active duty from 1950-1974. Previous research suggests that graduation from a service academy provides officers with the advantages required to enter the military elite. The results of this study suggest that service academy officers do have an advantage in promotion to the elite ranks. This advantage, however, is not maintained througho…
