  • The Invisible Racialized Minority Entrepreneur

Open Access•R L Fernando Garcia, Rosanna Garcia et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business Ethics•2023

Few studies in the business ethics literature explore marginalized populations, such as the racially minoritized entrepreneur. This absence is an ethical issue for the business academy as it limits the advancement of racial epistemologies. This study explores how this exclusionary space emerges within the academy by identifying white solipsistic behavior, an ‘othering’ of minoritized populations. In the marketing and advertising literature very few studies have addressed the issue of Web site standardization or localization, and there is a debate as to whether Web sites are culturally neutral or culturally sensitive documents. To address this confusion and deficit in the literature, this research studies how cultural values are reflected in American and Mexican Web sites. A content analysis of American and Mexican Web pages indicates that…

    Open Access•Ik‐whan G Kwon, Daniel W Baack et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Economics and…•2005•Cited by: 5•References: 18

Results from past research on the effectiveness of gun control legislation have been mixed. This study posits that one of the reasons for these conflicting results is the use of individual laws as the major variable. Instead, this study uses a holistic and comprehensive measure of state gun control laws, grouping states into extreme and lax gun control states. A multivariate linear regression analysis is used to investigate the relationship betwe…

  • Dating with HIV

Open Access•Mark Nicholas Hatala, Daniel W Baack et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•1998•Cited by: 6•References: 21

One hundred personal advertisements from homosexual men who disclosed their HIV-status were analyzed for content. Results supported the hypotheses that HIV-negative men would be more likely to specify positive characteristics for their partners, prescribe a seriousness for the relationship, be older and write longer ads. HIV-positive men were more likely to discuss health issues in their ads. Results are interpreted in light of case study and sur…
