The resilience problem for grief
Many people experience “resilient grief,” i.e. a rapid emotional recovery after bereavement, leading philosophers to ask whether grief fittingly diminishes or ends despite remaining fitting. In this paper, I argue that grief fittingly diminishes due to a revision of the griever’s projects and expectations. The paper provides a detailed overview of new radiocarbon dates, stable isotopes, and anthropological information obtained on prehistoric human remains (mostly Neolithic) from the Balkans and southwestern Carpathian Basin. It covers a large chronological sequence from the Mesolithic to the Bronze Age (9746–2628 cal BC), which encompasses different archaeological cultures.
