Writing this reflection on the last ten years of QED became simultaneously harder and easier after November 5, 2024. Harder because the cacophony of affective noise and my psychosomatic responses to the election sometimes threaten to unmoor me from homeostasis and a sense, if not a certainty, of balance. The article examines the 2010 International Mr. Leather contest, in which wheelchair user Tyler McCormick competed and won the title, to argue that compulsory able-bodiedness does not always rely on compulsory heterosexuality, but also a twenty-first-century brand of homonormativity that emerges even in “anti-normative” sexual environments such as those dedicated to gay leather sex practices and identities
