Comparative analysis of multimorbidity prevalence and lifestyle factors among older adults in frigid versus non-frigid zones of China
Multimorbidity, defined as the coexistence of at least two chronic diseases in an individual, exhibits spatial heterogeneity in its association with lifestyle factors across different climatic zones. Older adults in frigid zones–defined as areas where the average temperature in the coldest month is ≤ -10°C, or where daily mean temperatures ≤ 5°C persist for ≥ 145 days per year-face distinct environmental exposures compared to those in non-frigid …
Subsistence change in Iron Age to Tubo-period western Xizang
Human and fauna remains from Phiyang Dunkar cemetery were analyzed. • Stable isotope analysis reveals human relied on C 3 -based resources and animal protein consumption. • Increased dependence on C 3 foods and reduced animal protein intake after 7th centuries CE. • Dietary shift driven by intercultural exchange, climatic variability, and political change. The Phiyang Dunkar cemetery in western Xizang was in use from approximately 8th century BCE…
Dental caries as indicators of agricultural practices in the foothills of Neolithic China
Multi‐Isotope Analysis Reveals Human Millet‐Based Diets and Limited Mobility in the Central Plains of China ca. 5000 Years Ago
Unlike the unification of the Miaodigou culture, the late Yangshao period in the Central Plains of ancient China is marked by regional cultural diversity and external influences, necessitating more research into human subsistence and mobility patterns during this period. However, there has been a long‐time lack of direct evidence for the mobility of Yangshao populations. The present study, therefore, aims to address this gap by reconstructing hum…
Life history of a high‐class noblewoman from the late Shu state in the Chengdu Plain during the Eastern Zhou period (770–221 BC)
This preliminary study aims at reconstructing the life history, including dietary patterns, mobility, and health conditions, of a high‐class noblewoman (M154) from the late Shu state (晚蜀), the period of Kai Ming regime (開明氏), in the Shuangyuan Village Cemetery of the Eastern Zhou period (770–221 BC), Chengdu Plain, China, as a way to provide a glimpse into the human lifeway in the late Shu culture period under the impact of non‐local cultures. We…
Estimating intralimb proportions for commingled remains
Intralimb proportions provide insights into growth, development, populations history, and adaptation across human groups. However, the conventional approach of calculating brachial and crural indices for individual skeletons and comparing assemblages using sample means is not feasible in commingled remains. This study aims to assess the reliability of an “aggregate method” based on the ratio of sample means of limb bone lengths as an alternative …
Sding Chung
This study presents preliminary discoveries from Sding Chung cave, an early multi-burial cave site in the Himalayan highlands dating from 300BC-AD 300. Multiple human and animal bones within the cave provide unique evidence for understanding the diverse mortuary rituals and biocultural adaptations in this region
A comparative study of anti-gastric cancer activity between aqueous extract and ethanol extract of Folium cordylines fruticosae
The active components in Folium Cordylines Fruticosae were extracted by heat reflux method. The solvents used were distilled water and ethanol. The effects of two types of extracts on gastric cancer cells were compared; dry extract yields were calculated, as well as the inhibition rates of gastric cancer MGC-803 cell proliferation and the colony cell counts. The micro-Kjeldahl method was used to measure the cell protein contents and to make a com…
Study on protective effect of extract on hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury
The objective of the study was to study the protective effect of Silybum marianum extract on hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury. Rats were randomly divided into five groups; namely Silybum marianum extract high-, medium-, and low-dose protection groups, model group and control group. Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury model was prepared. Serum or plasma AST, ALT, MDA, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 levels were measured. The results revealed that after live…
