Developing evaluation method for diverse intermodal transport hubs
Navigating the trilemma of sustainable aviation fuel development in China
This study investigates sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development in China through interviews with 31 stakeholders, including fuel producers, aircraft manufacturers, airlines, and supply chain companies. The research identifies four recurring challenges: overreliance on used cooking oil and the hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) pathway, uncertain demand, lack of standardisation, and unclear policy support. Drawing on these interviews…
Standardizing the User Experience in Urban Geoportals
Urban geoportals are gaining ground globally. In this regard, integrating the ideals of user experience (UX) or UX with the urban geoportals would possibly usher in an era of better experiences and provisioning of services. We studied the fundamental theories of user experience, geoportals, and map visualization and proposed a way for their integration. The integrated model for urban experience is proposed as the integrated module for enhancing u…
Seeing Sarcasm Through Different Eyes
With the advent of large vision-language models (LVLMs) demonstrating increasingly human-like abilities, a pivotal question emerges: do different LVLMs interpret multimodal sarcasm differently, and can a single model grasp sarcasm from multiple perspectives like humans? To explore this, we introduce an analytical framework using systematically designed prompts on existing multimodal sarcasm datasets. Evaluating 12 state-of-the-art LVLMs over 2409…
Esketamine ameliorates depression-like behavior in mice via modulation of the NRG1–ErbB4 pathway
Background Esketamine has a significant and rapid antidepressant effect. Although studies have shown that Neuregulin 1 (NRG1) and it’s signaling pathway are associated with depression, the possible regulatory relationship of esketamine on the NRG1-ErbB4 pathway is not yet clear. Methods To induce depressive-like behavior in mice, a Chronic Social Defeat Stress (CSDS) model was established. Behavioral indicators were then employed to assess depres…

A Robust Graph Fraud Detection Model Based on Adversarial Reweighting
Graph-based fraud detection has gained significant attention due to its effectiveness in risk management. Recent approaches utilizing graph neural networks highlight the benefits of representing nodes through aggregating homogeneous neighbors. However, in real-world situations, fraudsters disguise their activities by forming connections with benign entities, leading to limitations in the homogeneous aggregation method. Because combining represent…
Effects of Diaspore Traits and Vegetation Structures on Wind Dispersal of Solanum rostratum Using Wind Tunnel Simulations
The effects of diaspore traits and vegetation structure (VS) on the wind‐dispersal processes of an invasive alien tumbleweed Solanum rostratum are not well understood. In this study, we used a wind tunnel to determine the wind velocity required for stem breakage of the plant. VSs of bare ground, desert steppe, typical steppe, and meadow steppe were simulated to determine the threshold wind velocity (TWV) of the plant (diaspore) and to measure dia…

Edible tourism landscapes
A case study of community-led edible landscape revitalization in post-industrial Shenyang, China
This study critically examines how community-led edible landscapes intersect with processes of memory-making and spatial regeneration in post-industrial Shenyang, China. Rather than presuming their inherent social or ecological benefit, the research investigates how these informal practices negotiate the tensions between urban redevelopment, memory politics, and governance ambiguity. Drawing on a qualitative case study approach—including particip…

The aim of this study is to provide new insights into the development of effective intervention measures to improve sleep and mental health in adolescents
Correlation analysis between smoke exposure and serum neurofilament light chain in adults
The study suggested that serum cotinine was significantly and positively associated with sNfl levels in adult participants. Furthermore, current smokers tend to exhibit elevated sNfL levels. This research sheds light on the potential implications of smoke exposure on neurological function impairment and underscores the importance of further exploration in this area
Financial sector development and industrialization
A functional and efficient financial sector is essential for the industrial advancement of a nation. In the context of Ethiopia’s rapidly growing economy, this study examines the limitations imposed by its underdeveloped financial sector on the country’s economic advancement and explores viable policy interventions. Characterized by state-owned bank dominance, a scarcity of non-bank financial institutions, and deficient infrastructure, Ethiopia’s…
When a destination is imagined
Metaphorical slogans have always been prevalent in tourism marketing, yet research on its persuasiveness is still in its infancy. This study aims to investigate the effects of metaphorical slogans on Chinese college students' travel intention and how this relationship will be affected by destination familiarity and imagery processing. Results reveal that metaphorical slogans can effectively enhance travel intention compared with their literal cou…
Correcting Misperceptions about Support for Social Distancing to Combat Covid-19
the perceived benefits from social distancing. We estimate impacts on social distancing, measured using a combination of self-reports and reports of others. While experts surveyed in advance expected the treatment to increase social distancing, we find that its average effect is close to zero and significantly lower than expert predictions. However, the treatment's effect is heterogeneous, as predicted by theory: it decreases social distancing wh…

Analysis of the dispute over the delimitation of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles in the Arctic Ocean
In the 1960s, the Arctic glaciers gradually melted, while the rich mineral and fishery resources in the region triggered a new strategic layout design for the countries around the Arctic Ocean, and countries have started to fight for the rights and interests related to the outer continental shelf of the Arctic Ocean in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. As of 2023, Russia, Canada, Norway and Denmark have applied …
Comparative Analysis of the Readability of English Research Articles Written by Chinese and English Native Writers
This research tries to explore the linguistic factors affecting the citation rate of Chinese writer’s research articles. We selected 50 SCI journal article introductions written by English Native and Chinese writers respectively. We measured their readability using Coh-Metrix. We then analyzed the data based on Graesser & McNamara’s theory of multi-level discourse comprehension. Our results show that the introductions written by the two types of …

Degradation, migration, and removal of trichlorfon on harvested apples during storage at room temperature
Dissipation of an organophosphorus pesticide, trichlorfon, in natural and waxed apples during storage was studied. The results showed that the trichlorfon content in natural and waxed apples decreased by 85% and 64%, respectively, during storage. The morphology of the surface film was dense and regular, which resulted in a higher water vapor resistance and a lower respiration rate in the waxed apples. This indicates that waxing affected the dissi…
Research on the Meaning Generation Mechanism of Chinese Rhetoric Huwen under the View of Conceptual Blending
Previous research on the rhetoric huwen in Chinese focused on the exploration of its origin and revelation of its application in Chinese classics, leaving the generation of its meaning barely touched. Taking classic poetry in Chinese, the study firstly analyzed the common types and basic features of huwen, based on which the meaning generation process was revealed under the guidance of the revised Conceptual Blending Theory. Results show that fea…
