  • Strategically Informed Machine Translation Post-Editing

    Open Access•Zhiying Li•ARTICLE•Language Teaching Research•2026

Machine translation (MT) errors may be seen as a limitation, but it is precisely these imperfections that provide learners with valuable opportunities for error-driven practice through post-editing (PE), thus developing their language proficiency and, in turn, supporting translation performance. However, little is known about how machine translation post-editing (MTPE) benefits intermediate learners of English as a foreign language (EFL). This em…

  • Early-Life Adversity Indicators and Preferences for Family-Based Care in Later Life

    Open Access•Zhiying Li•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•2026•References: 3

Amid China’s rapidly aging population, understanding determinants of long-term care preferences is increasingly critical. Drawing on data from the 2016 to 2023 waves of the China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey (CLASS), this study investigates how early-life adversity indicators shape older adults’ preferences for family-based care. Results indicate that individuals exposed to early-life adversity are more likely to favor family-centered care ar…

  • Elevating the Discipline

Open Access•Lisa Schame, Lisa Schamess et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the American…•2026•References: 36

Geographers are well suited to be public scholars, due to their specialized training and interdisciplinary perspectives, which equip them to “ground-truth” and convey knowledge on a wide variety of trends and issues to the public and policymakers. Although institutional recognition of public scholarship has increased over the past twenty years, it remains an underdeveloped area of practice for geographers, often fraught with professional and pers…

  • From caregiving burden to income transformation

Open Access•Zhiying Li, Longhua Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: Long-term care insurance (LTCI) has been introduced in China to address the challenges posed by an aging population. This study examines its impact on the income of older adult households, using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) from 2011 to 2020. The analysis further explores heterogeneity and implications for income inequality. Methods: A Difference-in-Differences (DID) approach is employed, with …

  • Activating health behaviors

Open Access•Zhiying Li, Yunhui Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Global Health Action•2025

BACKGROUND: The rapid development of digital infrastructure has the potential to affect public health, particularly among middle-aged and older adults. However, the causal relationship between digital infrastructure and physical health remains underexplored, especially in non-Western contexts. OBJECTIVES: This study investigates the causal effect of digital infrastructure development on the physical health of middle-aged and older adults in China…

  • Escaping poverty

Open Access•Yunhui Wang, Yihua Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2024

Eliminating poverty is a shared aspiration of people worldwide. This article analyzes 762 rural poverty-related texts promulgated and implemented by the Chinese Government since 1984 using content analysis based on a three-dimensional framework encompassing the time of policy issuance, policy goals, and types of policy instruments. The study outlines the overall landscape and evolutionary context of the policy system. The results show that, durin…

  • Analysis of the health effects of multiple social networks on the older adult

    Open Access•Zhiying Li•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Objectives This study aims to examine the role of social networks in influencing the physical and mental health of older Chinese adults, investigating both the underlying mechanisms and the associations between social networks, labor force participation, and health outcomes. Methods Using data from the 2021 China General Social Survey (CGSS), we analyzed a sample of 1,332 older adults, incorporating demographic and health-related variables. Ordin…

  • Different attentional selection modes of object information in the encoding and maintenance stages of visual working memory

Chao Pang, Yanzhang CHEN et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2023
