The Berlin Social Support Scales
The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Received Support Scale of the Berlin Social Support Scales in a Canadian sample of English and French language melanoma patients ( N = 137). Participants received a skin self-examination education and completed self-report questionnaires. Exploratory factor analyses, reliability analyses, and independent samples t-tests were conducted. The study described in this article explored how 7 men who believed they were dying from an AIDS-related illness began the process of rebuilding their lives following a course of successful combination therapy. Using constant comparison within and across interviews, three major themes emerged. Back to living was the realization they were going to live.
