Association between ensuring a daily rest period in the workplace and workers’ sleep
Workaholism, Work Engagement and Child Well-Being
This study examines how working parents' work attitudes (i.e., workaholism and work engagement) are associated with their child's psychological well-being. Based on the Spillover-Crossover model (SCM), we hypothesize that (a) work-to-family spillover (i.e., work-to-family conflict and facilitation) and (b) employee happiness will sequentially mediate the relationship between parents' work attitudes and their child's emotional and behavioral probl…
Workers’ physical activity data contribute to estimating maximal oxygen consumption
The PA score obtained using m-WLAQ, rather than sitting time, correlated well with measured VO 2max . The equation model that included the PA score as well as age, sex, and BMI had a favorable validity for estimating VO 2max . Thus, m-WLAQ can be a useful questionnaire to concurrently assess workers' SB and CRF, which makes it a reasonable resource for future epidemiological surveys on occupational health
Workplace social capital and the onset of major depressive episode among workers in Japan
BACKGROUND: This study examined the prospective association of workplace social capital (WSC) with major depressive episode (MDE) among Japanese employees. METHODS: A 3-year prospective cohort study was conducted among 1058 employees from a private think-tank company who participated in a baseline survey; after excluding those with MDE in the past 12 months, 929 were followed up. WSC at baseline was measured using a 3-item scale. MDE was assessed…
Socioeconomic Status is Significantly Associated with Dietary Salt Intakes and Blood Pressure in Japanese Workers (J-Hope Study)
The association of socioeconomic status (SES) with nutrients intakes attracts public attention worldwide. In the current study, we examined the associations of SES with dietary salt intake and health outcomes in general Japanese workers (2,266) who participated in this Japanese occupational cohort. SES was assessed by a self-administered questionnaire. Dietary intakes were assessed with a validated, brief, self-administered diet history questionn…
Effectiveness of a Red-visor Cap for Preventing Light-induced Melatonin Suppression during Simulated Night Work
Bright light at night improves the alertness of night workers. Melatonin suppression induced by light at night is, however, reported to be a possible risk factor for breast cancer. Short-wavelength light has a strong impact on melatonin suppression. A red-visor cap can cut the short-wavelength light from the upper visual field selectively with no adverse effects on visibility. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a red-viso…
Perceived job stress and sleep-related breathing disturbance in Japanese male workers
Non-fatal occupational injury among active and passive smokers in small- and medium-scale manufacturing enterprises in Japan
Job stress, social support, and prevalence of insomnia in a population of Japanese daytime workers
