Impacts of imageability of architecture on brain health
Imageability is a component of urban design and planning that has been recognized for its potential to enhance people's perceptual and emotional engagement with their environment. Nevertheless, evidence supporting specific strategies and its mpacts on brain health is still unclear. This systematic review aimed to characterize and summarize the evidence on the importance of imageability of architecture for brain cognitive and psychological health.…
Recommended best practices for construct-centered adaptation of the Harmonized Cognitive Assessment Protocol
The HCAP neuropsychological assessment approach has unique considerations for adaptation that balance the needs of local validity with cross-national harmonization. Shared best practices for HCAP adaptation will improve the quality of cross-national HCAP data collection, data harmonization, analyses, and inferences. The HCAP is a useful model for cross-nationally harmonized data collection and research to improve our understanding of cognitive ag…
Prevalence of dementia and mild cognitive impairment in the Mexican population
Leveraging the nationally-representative and comprehensive cognitive data in Mex-Cog, an algorithm-derived classification of dementia and MCI provided the prevalence of dementia and MCI in Mexico. Besides the association with cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease, the effect of education, rural residence, and lack of health insurance suggests an unequal burden of MCI and dementia among the aging Mexican population
The Influence of Education and Occupation Type on Birth Cohort Differences in Cognitive Function of Mexican Older Adults
Cognitive functioning is higher among more recent birth cohorts of older adults in Mexico. These cohort differences are partially mediated by education but not main lifetime occupation. Additional factors may contribute to cohort differences in cognitive function for older adults in Mexico
Gender, Personality, and Cognitive Resilience Against Early-Life Disadvantage
Personality factors may convey resilience among individuals who experienced ELD, potentially breaking the link between ELD and worse late-life cognition. Structural factors and gender roles may affect how much women benefit from personality factors
Socioeconomic Disparities and Gender Inequalities in Dementia
The Effect of Diabetes on the Cognitive Trajectory of Older Adults in Mexico and the United States
Despite the overall lower cognition in Mexico and different socioeconomic characteristics, the impact of diabetes on cognitive decline and the main risk and protective factors for poor cognition are similar in both countries
Common Mental Disorders at the Time of Deportation
Prevalence and Incidence Rates of Dementia and Cognitive Impairment No Dementia in the Mexican Population
These data provide estimates of prevalence and incidence of dementia and cognitive impairment in the Mexican population for projection of future burden
Factores asociados con la dependencia funcional en los adultos mayores
Functional dependence in older adults is directly related to aging and has multiple determinants. Awareness of these determinants should help design health programs that can identify individuals who are at high risk of losing their independence, and implement interventions for slowing or reversing the process
Comparative Analysis of Cognitive Impairment Among Mexicans and Spanish-Speaking Immigrant’s Elders
Mexicans and Spanish-speaking USA immigrants have similar prevalence estimates of cognitive impairment. However, prevalence of functional impairment differs between Mexicans and immigrants because of measurement issues and cultural factors
