Old age often involves major losses and challenges. In this article, I explore how an elderly man uses autobiographical writing as a tool for coping. Using the concepts of ontological breakdowns and poiesis, I explore how writing can be used to create continuity but also adjustment and new forms of being in the world

Ud fra en antagelse om, at de eksistentielle sider af aldring er faldet i baggrundenbåde i samfundet og i den antropologiske aldringsforskning, sætter artiklensig for at undersøge, hvordan de ældste i det danske samfund håndterer overgangentil den sene alderdom og livets afslutning.
