First Nations students’ perceptions of the enablers of and barriers to success in Australian higher education
This article offers a systematic review of what the literature tells us about how First Nations students perceive the factors that contribute to or hinder their success in Australian higher education. It builds on the ‘Aboriginal Voices’ project that investigated the many and varied issues that have contributed to the underachievement of First Nations students in Australian schools. Focusing on research published between 2010 and 2020, we examine…
The impact of Learning from Country on teachers’ understandings of place and community
In this paper, we present findings from the Culturally Nourishing Schooling (CNS) project data, collected during and after a series of experiential and immersive Learning from Country (LFC) activities with teachers working in New South Wales (NSW) schools in Australia. LFC is positioned as the critical first step in the CNS whole-school reform project, which seeks to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students’ educational experiences …
Future-Proofing Indigenous Self-Determination in Health
This chapter examines the crucial role of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) in New South Wales, Australia, in achieving Indigenous self-determination in health. It analyzes the historical context of ACCHOs, their goals and tactics for empowering Indigenous communities, and their significant achievements in improving health outcomes. The chapter argues that ACCHOs represent a successful model for future-proofing Indigen…
Primary Health Networks’ impact on Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services
The Abbott government's creation of Primary Health Networks in 2015 has substantially affected the way that primary healthcare funding is administered at the Commonwealth level. Primary Health Networks control a significant amount of Indigenous‐specific health funding, which Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services have historically relied upon. These Indigenous sector organisations have been delivering holistic and culturally appropriate …
Classic psychedelic use is associated with reduced psychological distress and suicidality in the United States adult population
Mental health problems are endemic across the globe, and suicide, a strong corollary of poor mental health, is a leading cause of death. Classic psychedelic use may occasion lasting improvements in mental health, but the effects of classic psychedelic use on suicidality are unknown. We evaluated the relationships of classic psychedelic use with psychological distress and suicidality among over 190,000 USA adult respondents pooled from the last fi…
The Transtheoretical Model of Change Applied to Developing Suicidal Behavior
The Transtheoretical Model of Change (TMC) is investigated as a tool for explaining and diagnosing suicidal behavior. Investigators found in a sample of 42 hospitalized suicide ideators and attempters, that most patients had progressed through the stages of change as predicted by the TMC, and that ten change processes (psychological states or experiences) defined by the TMC, were used systematically in association with specific stages of change. …

An Independent Chronology for British Bronze Age Metalwork
The paper presents and analyses 46 new radiocarbon measurements undertaken at the Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit with the aim of critically evaluating the existing chronology for Bronze Age metalwork. Samples chosen, from both old museum collections and more recent finds, were all organics in immediate physical contact with various types of bronze object; indeed the great majority were in direct functional association. Contextual integrity w…
Flag Fen platform and Fengate Power Station post alignment - the metalwork
For the purpose of discussion the platform and the alignment must be regarded as two separate sites which might in the future prove to have been related. Taken together the metal objects from the two sites represent a remarkable collection, not only by their context and numbers but also by the range of metals represented. Whilst the majority of the objects are in copper alloy (almost certainly bronze) there are also objects in iron, a white metal…
Symbolisme à l'Age du Bronze final en Europe atlantique, plaques décorées de type Watford
The connections between England and France during the later Bronze Age as seen in the similarity of the bronze objects and now pottery, is well known and has been described at length in recent years (see especially Burgess, 1969). The aim of this paper is to bring together a group of objects that indicate this contact and which might reflect aspects of the symbolic structure current during the later Bronze Age in Atlantic Europe. Bronze Final III…
Cause and Correlation
The distinction between correlational studies and correlational statistics is crucial to an understanding of the type of inferences that can be drawn from research. The complementary nature of correlational and experimental research in theory building is discussed
The Late Bronze Age Hoard From Clos De La Blanche Pierre, St Lawrence, Jersey, Channel Isles
The Late Bronze Age hoard from Clos de la Blanche Pierre, St Lawrence, Jersey was found in 1976. The hoard was found in a pot and the broken objects consisted of weapons, axes, tools, ornaments and casting debris dated to Bronze Final II (10th century B. C.) and represents the only material of this type to be found in the Channel Islands so far. The objects are directly comparable to those of the Saint Brieuc des Iffs industry in Brittany and the…

An analysis of the effects of suicide prevention facilities on suicide rates in the United States
Since the 1960s, there has been a massive effort to reduce suicide mortality in the United States through prevention centers which invite suicidal persons to phone for supportive services. In spite of virtually total lack of evidence concerning the efficacy of these services, they proliferated until, by 1973, nearly every metropolitan area in the United States had at least one. Suicide rates increased slightly throughout this time. We studied 196…

The Scandinavian Suicide Phenomenon
The well known differences in suicide rates among the European countries (especially the Scandinavian) are often explained as artifacts of statistical gathering and reporting. It is pointed out that the relative-rate differences reported by these countries obtain to a surprising (and reliable) extent in their immigrants to the United States where such statistics are gathered and reported by the same agents. It is suggested, therefore, that at lea…

Excavations at Northwich ( Condate )
The Roman sites of the Cheshire Plain have, with the exception of Middlewich, received little excavation in recent years. Indeed there has been no previous excavation at Northwich. Despite a very large degree of disturbance and other archaeological difficulties, the excavations established the existence of a two-phase auxiliary fort of Flavian origin on the site. After abandonment in the mid-2nd century, part of the area examined was occupied by …
