  • Eemian paleoenvironment based on the freshwater malacofauna and isotope record (Piła site; north-western Poland)

    Open Access•Stefan Witold Alexandrowicz, Joanna Mirosław-Grabowska et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2024

  • Archaeobotanical and palaeoenvironmental analyses from the easternmost Early Neolithic sites at Kamyane-Zavallia (Ukraine) and Nicolaevca V (Moldova)

    Open Access•Magdalena Moskal-Del Hoyo, Magda Kapcia et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 18

Recent archaeological excavations at two Early Neolithic settlements at Kamyane-Zavallia (Ukraine) and Nicolaevca V (Moldova) have provided new plant assemblages. The sites belong to the Linearbandkeramik culture (LBK) and represent its easternmost settlements. In these regions, charred plant macro-remains are still very rarely sampled for and investigated, so these results may shed light on the plant-based economy of the first farmers of this ar…

  • The use of malacological analysis in studies on anthropogenic transformations in microhabitats

Open Access•Stefan Witold Alexandrowicz, Witold Paweł Alexandrowicz•ARTICLE•Erdkunde•2021

The presented study is dedicated to the assessment of the scope and degree of anthropopressure, and the dependence of its intensity on the characteristics and nature of micro-environments. The research was based on the subfossil remains of molluscs. Eleven profiles of Late Holocene sediments in the Dulówka valley near Cracow were subjected to malacological analysis. In the upper part of the valley, there are calcareous tufas containing rich mollu…

  • Late Glacial and Holocene paleoecology and paleoenvironmental changes in the northern Carpathians foreland

    Open Access•J Wilczyński, M T Krajcarz et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 15

The study of past environments, their ecology, and detailed changes through time has become an important task of environmental science. Records of paleoenvironment usually vary between regions owing to different influences of local climate, vegetation, relief, and depositional processes. Therefore, studying local sequences thoroughly allows paleoenvironmental and paleoecological reconstructions for particular regions, but it also provides importa…

  • Karl Kolbenheyer (1841–1901) – nauczyciel, przyrodnik, turysta

    Open Access•Stefan Witold Alexandrowicz•ARTICLE•Studia Historiae Scientiarum•2017

Prowadził badania botaniczne, pomiary wysokości bezwzględnej oraz obserwacje meteorologiczne w Beskidzie Zachodnim i w Tatrach, a wyniki swoich prac publikował w wydawnictwach niemieckich, a…

  • The continuous persistence of open oak forests in the Miechów Upland (Poland) in the second half of the Holocene

    Open Access•Magdalena Moskal-Del Hoyo, Aldona Mueller-Bieniek et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2017•Cited by: 16•References: 10

  • Multi-proxy evidence of Holocene climate variability in Volhynia Upland (SE Poland) recorded in spring-fed fen deposits from the Komarów site

    Open Access•Radosław Dobrowolski, Krystyna Bałaga et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Cited by: 3•References: 15

Radiocarbon-dated spring-fed fen deposits from the Komarów site (Volhynia Upland, SE Poland) with its multi-proxy data (macrofossils, molluscs, geochemistry, pollen, stable isotopes of oxygen and carbon) enable us (1) to distinguish four main stages of fen evolution, which reflected a distinct variability of water supply conditions and (2) to reconstruct the Holocene humidity–temperature changes. The beginning of peat–tufa deposition took place i…

  • Malacological sequence from profile of calcareous tufa in Groń (Podhale Basin, southern Poland) as an indicator of the Late Glacial/Holocene boundary

Open Access•Stefan Witold Alexandrowicz, Witold Paweł Alexandrowicz•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013

  • Palaeolimnology of Lake Zeribar, Iran, and its Climatic Implications

Open Access•Krystyna Wasylikowa, Andrzej Witkowski et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2006

Lake Zeribar sediments covering the time period of the last 25,000 years were examined for the contents of seeds, fruits, Characeae, diatoms, and molluscs. Reconstructions of the variations in the lake water level, salinity, and trophy suggest a sequence of climatic changes. Three pronounced stages of low and varying lake-water level occurred ca. 17,700–15,400, 12,600–12,000, and 10,000–6000 cal yr BP. Some water-level changes were correlated wit…

  • Recurrent Holocene landslides

    Open Access•Stefan Witold Alexandrowicz, Zofia Alexandrowicz•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1999•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Situated in the southern part of the Polish Outer Carpathians, the development of the Krynica lanslide is presented in detail. Head scarps, slide shoulders and colluvial ridges connected with particular episodes of sliding occur on the western slope of the Parkowa Góra Mountain. Peaty silts and calcareous tufa suitable for the radiocarbon dating fill depressions within colluvial masses. Calcareous deposits contain rich assemblages of molluscs cha…

  • Correlation between Loess profiles on the basis of mineralogical, malacological, and anthropogenic indicators

Open Access•M Pawlikowski, Stefan Witold Alexandrowicz et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•1998•References: 1

Moravany-Lopata, located in the complex of sites in the middle Vah basin, dates to the period immediately preceding the LGM. The authors use this site to demonstrate the usefulness of mineralogical, sedimentological, palaeomalacological, and anthropogenic criteria for the correlation of loess profiles. This analysis is especially concerned with sites in loess territories where the loess layers covering archaeological levels are not thick. Such si…
