This article describes radical rightwing dystopian fictions set in near‐future versions of the USA, in which the nature of liberal society, combined with some disastrous catalyst, triggers armed resistance by authoritarian, libertarian, and/or secessionist forces, leading to a Second Civil War. Books are a recognized but insufficiently researched means for dissemination of ideologies, including by far-right violent extremists. The hypothesis of this article is that, for its adherents, QAnon is truthful, rather than true; that is, it captures their perception of the way things typically happen, rather than picturing what really has happened—and it does this in a way that seems more vivid and complete than actual experience. He Manqiu joined the Chinese Red Army in 1935. She participated in the Long March, during which she enrolled in a Red Army medical school, becoming a military doctor. Her story, from childhood through graduation from medical school, told mostly in her own words, is drawn from an Oral History Project on women's experiences on the Long March, carried out in China between 1986 and 1989.
