  • The Genes Influencing Adiponectin Levels Also Influence Risk Factors for Metabolic Syndrome and Type 2 Diabetes

    Anthony G Comuzzie, M Elizabeth Tejero et al.•ARTICLE•Human Biology•2007•References: 1

Results from previous studies suggest that adiponectin levels are associated with risk factors for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus; however, the genetic and/or environmental components of this relationship have not been characterized. The aims of this study were (1) to assess the presence of pleiotropy between adiponectin levels and risk factors for cardiovascular disease and (2) to study the association of circulating levels …

  • Relation of Body Fat Distribution to Metabolic Complications of Obesity

Ahmed H Kissebah, NADARAJEN VYDELINGUM et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Clinical…•1982

The importance of body fat distribution as a predictor of metabolic aberrations was evaluated in 9 nonobese and 25 obese, apparently healthy women. Plasma glucose and insulin levels during oral glucose loading were significantly higher in women with predominantly upper body segment obesity than in women with lower body segment obesity. Of the former group, 10 of 16 subjects had diabetic glucose tolerance results, while none of the latter group wa…
