  • A meta-analysis of the presence of crop plants in the Dutch and German terp area between 700 bc and ad 1600

    Open Access•Mans Schepers, Karl‐Ernst Behre et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2023•Referencias: 1

There is a long tradition of archaeobotanical research in and around the dwelling mounds, known as terps or Wurten (among other names), along the Wadden Sea coast. The present paper presents an overview of crop plants retrieved from 1,389 samples, from a total of more than 100 sites, spanning the Iron Age to the Early Modern Period. Traditionally, the area has been more associated with animal husbandry than with crop farming. The crops that do oc…

  • Evidence for Mesolithic agriculture in and around central Europe

    Open Access•Karl‐Ernst Behre, Karl-Ernst Behre•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2006•Citada por: 34•Referencias: 12

A critical assessment of the data recently put forward in favour of a ‘Mesolithic agriculture’ for Central and Northern Europe is presented. The archaeobotanical record is quite clear: hundreds of excavations of early Neolithic sites, whether from Linearbandkeramik or Trichterbecher (funnel beaker) settlements have produced remains of cultivated plants in large numbers. In contrast to this, all Mesolithic sites excavated so far have not revealed …

  • Die tausendjährige Geschichte des Teesdalio-Arnoseridetums

    Karl‐Ernst Behre, Karl-Ernst Behre•ARTICLE•Phytocoenologia•1993

Developments in the techniques used in studying past vegetation and the availability of good sample material enable the reconstruction, in considerable detail, of former plant communities on the basis of fossil material. In exceptional circumstances, it is even possible to reconstruct a community to the level of association, i.e. the basic syntaxonomic unit. This is illustrated by reference to the Teesdalio-Arnoseridetum, a community of winter ce…
