Anchored in an ethnographic fieldwork in rural Ethiopia, involving 66 children (12–18 years old) and 17 church scholars, this article looks at how a traditional school of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church nurtures sentiments of patriotism and national pride in Yekolo temari (children in the school). Based on focus groups and in-depth interviews with Qenie students (n = 66) in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, the author explored strategies the students used to maintain or achieve high positive self-esteem and national pride.
