A budget impact analysis of 15- or 20- valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine use in all US adults aged 50–64 years old compared to those with high-risk conditions from US payer perspective
Incorporating either PCV20 or PCV15/PPSV23 vaccines in routine vaccination programs for adults aged 50-64 years compared to vaccinating only adults with chronic conditions had an incremental budget impact of $6.5 and $9 billion, respectively, over three years. Budgetary impact was sensitive to number of vaccine doses, cost of vaccine per dose, vaccine coverage proportion and pneumococcal treatment cost across the overall population and sub-groups…
Influenza Vaccination, Household Composition, and Race-Based Differences in Influenza Incidence
Objectives. To estimate the effect of influenza vaccination disparities. Methods. We compared symptomatic influenza cases between Black and White races in 2 scenarios: (1) race- and age-specific vaccination coverage and (2) equal vaccination coverage. We also compared differences in household composition between races. We used the Framework for Reconstructing Epidemiological Dynamics, an agent-based model that assigns US Census‒based age, race, h…
Health-related Quality of Life following Mild (Covid)-19 Illness
Objectives: A cluster analysis was undertaken to help explain reported differences in health-related quality of life among acute respiratory illness (ARI) outpatients. Methods: Symptomatic enrollees (18-87 years) completed the Short Form Health Survey at enrollment and 6-8 weeks later from March 30, 2020 through April 30, 2021. We compared changes in physical health composite score (PCS) and mental health composite score (MCS) across high, medium…
Willingness to Co-receive Covid-19 and Influenza Vaccines among Outpatients
Objectives: This study was designed to examine future willingness to co-receive COVID-19 and influenza vaccines and factors associated with that willingness among outpatients with acute respiratory illness (ARI). Methods: Outpatients ≥15 years with respiratory symptoms for ≤10 days were surveyed about vaccination behaviors and intentions. We used multinomial logistic regression to assess associations between demographic, behavioral and health-rel…
Spirituality, quality of life and frailty in community-dwelling adults ≥ 50 years
Differences between Frequentist and Bayesian inference in routine surveillance for influenza vaccine effectiveness
Bayesian estimates of influenza VE can differ from frequentist estimates to a clinically meaningful degree when VE diverges substantially from previous seasons
Intention to Receive Influenza Vaccine after an Acute Respiratory Illness
The combined experience of not being vaccinated against influenza and seeking medical attention for an ARI seemed to influence approximately one-half of unvaccinated participants to consider influenza vaccination for next season
Quantifying the Economic Value and Quality of Life Impact of Earlier Influenza Vaccination
BACKGROUND: Influenza vaccination is administered throughout the influenza disease season, even as late as March. Given such timing, what is the value of vaccinating the population earlier than currently being practiced? METHODS: We used real data on when individuals were vaccinated in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and the following 2 models to determine the value of vaccinating individuals earlier (by the end of September, October, and Novembe…
Cost-effectiveness of programs to eliminate disparities in elderly vaccination rates in the United States
A practice-based vaccination program designed to eliminate disparities in elderly minority vaccination rates and including four interventions would be cost-effective
Assessing Disparities in Adult Vaccination Using Multimodal Approaches in Primary Care Offices
Impact of the 2004 Influenza Vaccine Shortage on Patients from Inner City Health Centers
Impact of vaccine economic programs on physician referral of children to public vaccine clinics
Reported out-referral to public clinics decreased over time. In light of increasing immunizations rates, this suggests that more vaccines were being administered in private provider offices
Beliefs and Attitudes about Influenza Immunization among Parents of Children with Chronic Medical Conditions over a Two-Year Period
Predictors of Lower Endoscopy Use Among Patients at Three Inner-City Neighborhood Health Centers
Tailoring Interventions
Tailored Interventions to Increase Influenza Vaccination in Neighborhood Health Centers Serving the Disadvantaged
Objectives. We designed and evaluated interventions to increase adult immunizations within inner-city health centers. Methods. Interventions included reminders, standing orders, and walk-in “flu shot clinics.” Patients were surveyed and records evaluated. Results. Records from 1 center showed that immunization rates increased from 24% to 30% (P Conclusions. Tailored interventions can improve immunization rates at inner-city health centers
The Role of Qualitative Methods for Investigating Barriers to Adult Immunization
In 1999, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality funded a study of barriers to immunization, which included a short-term qualitative data collection to assess the organizational and cultural features of selected primary care practices and to explore their impact on adult immunization rates. The authors describe the short-term qualitative data collection system and the contributions made by the qualitative study to the parent project. They …
