In this study, we examined the characteristics of adolescents' deep interests or "sparks," the role of relationships in supporting the development of sparks, and whether having a spark was associated with positive developmental outcomes. Adults and children seem to essentialize certain social categories. Three studies investigated whether, and how, exposure to ethnic diversity affects this bias. Participants were 516 kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 6th grade Israeli Jewish and Arab children attending regular (mono-cultural) or integrated schools. Study 1 revealed that exposure increased the salience of ethnicity, especially for Jewish children. Study 2 showed no differences among gr…
Self-concept and dangerous driving proclivity in male and female Israeli drivers
The aim of this paper was to see whether there is an association between drivers' self-concept, gender, and proclivity for dangerous driving. Participants' self-concept was measured using the brief Hebrew version of the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale (TSCS; Fitts, 1965). Tendency to commit traffic violations and to engage in dangerous driving was assessed using the Dangerous Driving Questionnaire (DDQ; Berger, 1995). The regression analysis showed …
