Sexual Behaviors and Human Papillomavirus Vaccination in a Heterosexually Active Adult Population at Increased Risk for HIV Infection
Elimination of cervical cancer in Latin America (Project Echo-ELA)
We describe the outcomes of The Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes-Elimination of Cervical Cancer in The Americas (ECHO-ELA) program, which was developed as a tri-lateral cooperation between Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MD Anderson). The program’s purpose is to disseminate strategies for cervical cancer prevention and is structured…
Prevalence of Human Papillomavirus Infection Among Women Born in the 1990s vs the 1980s and Association With HPV Vaccination in the US
This cross-sectional study analyzed data from 2 cycles (2005-2006 and 2015-2016) of the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES)-a stratified multistage probability sample of the civilian population in the US. Demographic characteristics, including immunization history and race and ethnicity were self-reported and collected by trained interviewers during a home interview. Participants provided self-collected cervicovaginal swab…
Exploring Preventive Healthcare in a High-Risk Vulnerable Population
This study describes preventive care behaviors and explores opportunities to deliver preventive sexual healthcare to a high-risk vulnerable population. Data from the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS) system high-risk heterosexuals (HET) cycle (2019) in Houston, Texas, was used to describe preventive care utilization and assess the relationship between healthcare utilization and sociodemographic characteristics. More than 47% reported ha…
Human Papillomavirus Vaccinations During the Covid-19 Pandemic in Middle Schools in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas
This quasi-experimental study (a community-based, physician-led human papillomavirus [HPV] education campaign and school-based vaccination program) followed 6481 students at eight Pharr–San Juan–Alamo Independent School District (Rio Grande Valley, Texas) middle schools between August 2016 and March 2021. We describe the successes and challenges experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. HPV vaccine initiation and completion rates increased 1.29-f…
Multi-Theory Model and Predictors of Likelihood of Accepting the Series of HPV Vaccination
HPV vaccines are efficacious in preventing HPV related cancers. However, the vaccination uptake in Ghana is very low. Studies that utilize theoretical frameworks to identify contributory factors to HPV vaccination uptake in Ghana are understudied. We used multi-theory model (MTM) constructs to predict initiation and completion of HPV vaccination series in Ghanaian adolescents. Adolescents ( n = 285) between the ages of 12 and 17 years old were re…
Racial/ethnic variation in the prevalence of vaccine-related human papillomavirus genotypes
Objective: There are currently three licensed human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines that protect against cervical cancer. Here we compare the prevalence of bi-, quadri-, and nonavalent vaccine-related HPV genotypes in a multi-ethnic sample of non-Hispanic white, non-Hispanic black, Hispanic, and Asian women. Design: Patients in this analysis ( n = 419) represent a subset of women with a previous abnormal Pap test participating in a clinical trial. …
Assessment of factors impacting cervical cancer screening among low-income women living with HIV-Aids
Very little is currently known about factors impacting the prevalence of cervical cancer screening among women living with HIV-AIDS (WLHA). To better understand this issue, we surveyed low-income, medically underserved women receiving subsidized gynecologic care through an integrated HIV clinic. A self-administered questionnaire was completed by 209 women who self-identified as HIV positive. A total of 179 subjects (85.7%) reported having had a P…
Non-utilization of the Pap Test Among Women with Frequent Health System Contact
Feasibility of Cervical Cancer Screening Utilizing Self-sample Human Papillomavirus Testing Among Mexican Immigrant Women in Harris County, Texas
Nativity Differences in Behaviors Associated with High-Risk HPV Infection Among Hispanic Women in Houston, Texas, USA
Comparison of Surveillance Sample Demographics Over Two Cycles of the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance Project, Houston, Texas
