  • An Intervention to Enhance Obstetric and Newborn Care in India

Open Access•Shivaprasad S Goudar, Richard J Derman et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Health Journal•2015

  • A cluster-randomized trial determining the efficacy of caterpillar cereal as a locally available and sustainable complementary food to prevent stunting and anaemia

Open Access•Melissa Bauserman, Adrien Lokangaka et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2015

Objective We conducted a cluster-randomized controlled trial to assess the efficacy of a cereal made from caterpillars, a micronutrient-rich, locally available alternative animal-source food, on reducing stunting and anaemia in infants in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Design Six-month-old infants were cluster randomized to receive either caterpillar cereal daily until 18 months of age or the usual diet. At 18 months of age, anthropometric mea…

  • Effects of Sustained Abstinence Among Treated Substance-Abusing Homeless Persons on Housing and Employment

Jesse B Milby, Joseph E Schumacher et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2010•Cited by: 3•References: 19

Objectives. We examined whether cocaine-dependent homeless persons had stable housing and were employed 6, 12, and 18 months after they entered a randomized controlled trial comparing 2 treatments. Methods. One group (n = 103) received abstinence-contingent housing, vocational training, and work; another group (n = 103) received the same intervention plus cognitive behavioral day treatment. We examined baseline and early treatment variables for a…

  • Towards a More Sensitive Assessment of Homelessness

Jesse B Milby, Dennis Wallace et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Distress and…•2005

Properties of the Homelessness Severity Scale (HSS) are investigated relative to that of the Personal History Form (PHF), which is based on the McKinney Act definition and criteria for homelessness. The HSS is potentially more sensitive as it includes assessment of shelter quality. Participants (N=141) were drawn from a larger study of substance abuse interventions for the homeless. Other measures included drug abstinence, treatment attendance an…

  • To House or Not to House

Jesse B Milby, Joseph E Schumacher et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2005•Cited by: 5•References: 28

Objectives. Housing typically is not provided to homeless persons during drug abuse treatment. We examined how treatment outcomes were affected under 3 different housing provision conditions. Methods. We studied 196 cocaine-dependent participants who received day treatment and no housing (NH), housing contingent on drug abstinence (ACH), or housing not contingent on abstinence (NACH). Drug use was monitored with urine testing. Results. The ACH gr…

  • Cardiovascular Reactivity to Video Game Predicts Subsequent Blood Pressure Increases in Young Men

    Jerome H Markovitz, James M Raczynski et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1998

OBJECTIVE: This study was undertaken to determine the relationship between heightened reactivity of blood pressure (BP) during stress and 5-year changes in blood pressure and hypertensive status, using the CARDIA study. METHOD: A total of 3364 participants (910 white men, 909 white women, 678 black men, and 867 black women), initially 20 to 32 years old and normotensive, were included. Cardiovascular reactivity to psychological stressors (video g…
