El "significado" de la música utilizada por un chamán semiurbanizado en el oriente peruano durante una ceremonia de curación de la ayahuasca se aclara mediante un análisis conjunto de estructuras rituales y musicales. Se sugiere que la música en tales rituales alucinógenos es una característica simbólica y estructural importante e integral del ritual, además de proporcionar apoyo psicológico y orientación a los participantes
