  • Ice Cores from the St. Elias Mountains, Yukon, Canada

Open Access•Christian Zdanowicz, David Fisher et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•2014

A major achievement in research supported by the Kluane Lake Research Station was the recovery, in 2001 – 02, of a suite of cores from the icefields of the central St. Elias Mountains, Yukon, by teams of researchers from Canada, the United States, and Japan. This project led to the development of parallel, long (103 – 104 year) ice-core records of climate and atmospheric change over an altitudinal range of more than 2 km, from the Eclipse Icefiel…

  • The Mt Logan Holocene—late Wisconsinan isotope record

    Open Access•David Fisher, E C Osterberg et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2008•Cited by: 6•References: 1

The ice core recovered from Prospector Russell Col on Mt Logan (5.4 km a.s.l.), in the Yukon spans over 20 000 years. This unique record offers a Pacific view of the stable isotope and chemical record from the Lateglacial to the present. The timescale is based on seasonal counted years, the largest known volcanic acid signatures and the major shift in stable isotopes and chemistry at the end of the Younger Dryas. There are large and sustained cha…

  • A Holocene Ice-Core Pollen Record from Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada

    Open Access•Jocelyne Bourgeois, Jocelyne C Bourgeois et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2000

A Holocene record of pollen deposition was obtained from an ice core drilled through the Agassiz Ice Cap. The pollen records long-range atmospheric transport to the ice cap. Pollen concentrations were highest in the early Holocene (∼15 grains/L), decreased in the mid-Holocene (∼6 grains/L), and increased in the late Holocene (∼9 grains/L). In the early Holocene, the higher concentration of tree pollen at a time when large parts of Canada were sti…
