  • Holocene Palaeoenvironmental change at the mouth of Sabarmati River, Gulf of Khambhat, Western India

Open Access•Chintan Vedpathak, Archana Das et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Environments and Humans•2024

The fluvio-marine archives have been widely used to assess the imprints of land-sea interaction during the Holocene period, which has been enigmatic in terms of changes in environmental conditions. To comprehend the fluvial-marine interactions during the Holocene period in response to relative sea level changes, a sedimentary record has been studied from the mouth of the Sabarmati river at the Gulf of Khambhat (western India), which has also host…

  • Th century coastal uplift in Peninsular India – The Shore Temple at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu

Open Access•Miklós Kázmér, Siddharth Prizomwala et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2022

The Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram (Tamil Nadu, Southern India) exists since the late 7th century. Historical sources suggest that it was built on an island in honour of the gods Vishnu and Shiva. A former bridge over the canal, which separated the island from the mainland, and a seawall, which protected the shore from the waves are dysfunctional now, as they are located too high above the present day sea level. A holy well, part of the temple com…

  • Geomorphic response to neotectonic instability in the Deccan volcanic province, Shetrunji River, western India

    Open Access•Tarun Solanki, Paras M Solanki et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2021

  • Archaeological Evidence for Modern Coastal Uplift at Diu, Saurashtra Peninsula, India

Open Access•Miklós Kázmér, Nilesh Bhatt et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2016•References: 9

There is a tank hewn into coastal Pleistocene limestone near Diu city on the Saurashtra Peninsula of western India. Site survey and a review of similar structures worldwide provide evidence that this tank could have been used for holding fish or Murex snails. The approximately 5 × 5 m tank is connected to the sea by a 1‐m‐deep canal; today it would be impossible to use the tank, given that not even the high spring tides can fill it. It is suggest…
