  • A case of concrescent tooth—A developmental anomaly in a 19th century skull from Uganda

Open Access•Paweł Dąbrowski, Dariusz Nowakowski et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017

  • An analysis of the origin of an early medieval group of individuals from Gródek based on the analysis of stable oxygen isotopes

    Open Access•Aleksandra Lisowska Gaczorek, A Lisowska-Gaczorek et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2016

  • Two cases of osteoid osteoma in skulls dating from the 13–14th centuries from St. Elisabeth’s Church in Wrocław, Poland

    Open Access•Aleksandra Gawlikowska-Sroka, B Kwiatkowska et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Review•2016

In the study two human skulls recovered from archaeological excavations at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Wrocław, dating from the 13-14th centuries were assessed. Direct measurements of each skull were recorded, and X-ray images in P-A, lateral and basal projections were taken. The skulls represented adult males. Large, bony, lobular tumours were found on the palatine bones of both skulls. X-ray examination identified these tumours as osteoid osteoma…

  • Population genomics of Bronze Age Eurasia

Open Access•Morten E Allentoft, Mateusz Sikora et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2015

The Bronze Age of Eurasia (around 3000–1000 BC) was a period of major cultural changes. However, there is debate about whether these changes resulted from the circulation of ideas or from human migrations, potentially also facilitating the spread of languages and certain phenotypic traits. We investigated this by using new, improved methods to sequence low-coverage genomes from 101 ancient humans from across Eurasia. We show that the Bronze Age w…

  • Anthropological analysis of the phenomenon of atlas occipitalisation exemplified by a skull from twardogóra (17th c.)-southern Poland

Open Access•MaŁgorzata Senator, Stanisław Gronkiewicz et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2012•References: 5

Occipitalisation of the atlas is one of the most frequent osseous anomalies of the atlas. It is characterised by the adhesion of the first cervical vertebra with the basilar part of the occipital bone. The most probable cause of the occipitalisation is a congenital disorder. The atlanto-occipital fusion may lead to narrowing of the space for medulla oblongata, spinal cord and vertebral artery. This in turn may lead to many physiological symptoms.…

  • Height of skull base as an indicator of living conditions in historical native populations from Europe, Australia and Africa

    Open Access•MaŁgorzata Senator, B Kwiatkowska et al.•ARTICLE•HOMO•2009

  • Body mass index, overweight and obesity in married and never married men and women in Poland

Open Access•A Lipowicz, Stanisław Gronkiewicz et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2002

The study examined the relationship between marital status and the body mass index (BMI) and the prevalence of overweight and obesity in the Polish population. The sample included 2,266 men and 4,122 women, 25-60 years of age, who were occupationally active inhabitants of Wroclaw, in southwestern Poland. Marital status was defined by two categories: never married and presently married, and two groups in each category were established on the basis…

  • Comparison of various decalcificators in preparation of DNA from human rib bones

    Open Access•Magdalena Żołędziewska, Stanisław Gronkiewicz et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropological Review•2002•Cited by: 1•References: 7

Various calcium-binding buffers and agents in DNA preparation from fresh human rib bones were compared. We showed that the buffer described by Kuntze et al. [1996] yielded the highest quantities of DNA, but the obtained DNA was strongly degraded. The best quality DNA was obtained using two buffers: of Hänni et al. [1994] and of Ivanov et al. [1995]. Among the new calcium-binding agents that were not examined before, the most efficient were Bismut…

  • The Distribution of Eye-Colour in the Polish Population

    Open Access•Lidia Gronkiewicz, Stanisław Gronkiewicz•ARTICLE•Anthropological Review•1995•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Among adult males and females shows no regional differences in eye-colour, thus, the Polish population is homogenous as regards this trait. It is suggested that the regional differences in eye-colour, observed in Poland before World War II, declined in result of the post-war, massive migrations and resettlements of the Polish population

  • "Pierwsza polska „Antropologia" i jej autor Józef Jasiński

    Open Access•Stanisław Gronkiewicz•ARTICLE•Anthropological Review•1987•Cited by: 1

Over half a century before the \ncreation of the first anthropological institutions in Poland, a work was published in Poland being a testimony of the \nanthropological knowledge of Polish natural scientists from the turn of the 18th century

  • Analiza antropologiczna wczesnośredniowiecznej ludności z Milicza (XII-XIII w. n. e.)

    Open Access•Brunon Miszkiewicz, Stanisław Gronkiewicz•ARTICLE•Anthropological Review•1986
