Hedonic capacity in a Chinese community population sample
The Chinese version of the DARS is an effective tool for assessing hedonic capacity, i.e. screening for depression in community-dwelling populations. The observed gender differences in hedonic capacity imply that future mental health services could be more effective if adapted based on gender
Effects of aripiprazole on prolactin levels and differences in effectiveness in patients with schizophrenia
In this real-world study, for patients with acute schizophrenia, aripiprazole was effective in lowering the proportion of patients with abnormal prolactin levels, while it had no significant effect on patients with normal baseline prolactin. After adjusting for factors such as sex, age, prior antipsychotic drugs use history and disease severity, effectiveness and safety of aripiprazole in patients with normal baseline prolactin was significantly …
Weighted Gene Coexpression Network Analysis Reveals Essential Genes and Pathways in Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder (BD) is a major and highly heritable mental illness with severe psychosocial impairment, but its etiology and pathogenesis remains unclear. This study aimed to identify the essential pathways and genes involved in BD using weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA), a bioinformatic method studying the relationships between genes and phenotypes. Using two available BD gene expression datasets (GSE5388, GSE5389), we constr…
Striatal Functional Connectivity Alterations After Two-Week Antidepressant Treatment Associated to Enduring Clinical Improvement in Major Depressive Disorder
Background: Only less than 40% of patients with Major depressive disorder (MDD) can achieve remission after several weeks of initial antidepressant treatment. Predicting whether the prescribed treatment is effective in the following course may help clinicians modify the treatment regimen in time, and reduce the staggering burden for patients and society. However, there are not yet reliable markers based on neurobiological change after a treatment…
Perception of Stigma and Its Associated Factors Among Patients With Major Depressive Disorder
Stigma of major depressive disorder (MDD) is an important public health problem. This study aimed to examine the level of perceived stigma and its associated factors in MDD patients in five Asian countries, including China, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. A total of 547 outpatients with MDD were included from Asian countries. We used the stigma scale of the Explanatory Model Interview Catalogue (EMIC) to assess stigma. The Montgomery-As…
Risk Factors for Recent Suicide Attempts in Major Depressive Disorder Patients in China
Objective: To analyze the factors associated with recent suicide attempts including socio-demographic and clinical characteristics in major depressive disorder (MDD) patients in China. Methods: The data were from a nationwide sample from 13 major psychiatric hospitals or the psychiatric units of general hospitals in China, from September 1, 2010 to February 28, 2011. Melancholic features and suicide attempts in the past month were defined accordi…
