An experimental study in the prevention of hospitalization of schizophrenics
An experimental home care program for schizophrenics utilizing public health nursing practices and psychoactive drugs indicated that hospitalization of more than three-fourths was prevented during the 30 months of the study in contrast to only one-third in a placebo control group. Social Consensus in Persuasive Communication
A communicator consensus technique for quantitative variation of communicator credibility was developed. 80 Ss were exposed to persuasive arguments advocated by “all the experts” (high-consensus) and “somewhat less than half the experts” (low-consensus). Reported racial differences in occurrence of mental disorder have been attributed to inferiority, too rapid acculturation or striving for equality. Data from Baltimore studies indicate that Negroes do not have higher rates for psychoses, psychoneuroses or psychophysiological disorders, but do for mental deficiency. These findings have implications for epidemiology and prevention
