This explorative study seeks to provide insights into the ways young Muslim adults experience and cope with Islamophobia in Flanders. For this purpose, in-depth interviews with 14 Muslims aged 19 to 33 were conducted in the spring of 2020. Our interviewees defined themselves as Muslims and all had been confronted with racism or anti-Muslim sentiment in their daily life. Collective identity, social adversity and college student sympathy for violent radicalization
Identity issues have been at the forefront in studies on determinants of youth violent radicalization. Identity uncertainty and identity fusion appear to be associated with quests for meaning, which may find some answers in extremist discourses and radical engagements. Trauma and Extended Separation from Family among Latin American and African Refugees in Montreal
Although the vast majority of refugees have suffered trauma and extended separation from their families in exile, little is known about the interactions between these two types of experience. The qualitative and quantitative analyses of data gathered from 113 refugees from Latin America and Africa suggest that the joint occurrence of trauma and separation has a significant impact on emotional distress and confirm that the family plays a key role …

The authors inquire into traumatic experiences of refugies who recently arrived in Montreal from the former Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of Congo.
