Problem Posing and Mathematical Modeling
In this research commentary, we describe the connections between problem posing and mathematical modeling as domains of mathematics education research. We document an unexpected apparent scarcity of problem posing in the mathematical modeling literature and provide some recommendations to better position problem posing as an integral part of research related to the teaching and learning of mathematical modeling. We call more broadly for the field…
Exploring the Relationship Between Fourth and Eighth Graders' Self‐Efficacy and Mathematical Problem Posing From the Threshold Perspective
This study explores the task‐specific self‐efficacy of 1815 Chinese fourth graders and 1767 eighth graders as well as its relationship to their problem‐posing performance and the moderating effect of grit on this relationship. the linear regression model, generalised additive model (GAM) and continuous threshold regression model (CTRM) were used. The findings indicate that the relationship between self‐efficacy and mathematical problem posing is …
Aprendizagem E Pensamento Matemático
This study aims to analyze the association between problem-solving and posing and its potential to promote learning and aid in understanding students’ mathematical thinking. To this end, a qualitative case study was carried out involving elementary Grades 1-5’ students in the solving of a problem that was adapted to generate different learning outcomes related to the division operation as well as associating the posing of problems with the reques…
