Politicization as conflict, public and formatting
The article presents a new conceptualization of politicization as a process with three components: a conflict, a public, and formatting that renders the conflict recognizable to others. We suggest that the theory of group styles, based on the pragmatist idea of people creatively using cultural tools for meaning-making, can be a fruitful way forward to study the cultures of anonymous online communities such as imageboards. This article analyses the discourse concerning gender quotas and their implementation in Finnish local politics. Among our local actor interviewees, we found four different groups: feminist-oriented, non-feminist, accepting and disapproving.
