AI Vibrancy and Renewable Energy Consumption
This study examines the association between artificial intelligence vibrancy and renewable energy consumption across 36 countries from 2017 to 2023. Using a reduced‐form panel framework with Driscoll–Kraay standard errors, the results show that income per capita and government effectiveness are the dominant drivers of renewable energy consumption. At the same time, carbon dioxide emissions are negatively associated. Several dimensions of artifici…

The Spillover Effect of US‐China Tension on India's Medium‐High‐Tech Manufacturing Exports
Rising US‐China tensions can significantly reshape the worldwide trade dynamics by disrupting established supply chains. Addressing this, this study explores the impact of US‐China tension on India's medium‐high‐tech manufacturing exports by obtaining time series data from India spanning 1997 to 2022. This study also examines the behavior of export market diversification on medium‐high‐tech manufacturing exports, in the presence of US‐China tensi…

Role of Digitalization and Government Effectiveness in Sustainable Energy Transition
This study explores how digitalization, through resident and non‐resident innovation initiatives, along with government effectiveness, affects the transition to renewable energy generation in five Advanced (Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore) and seven Emerging (China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) Asian economies. The research uses annual data from 1985 to 2022 and applies several econometric …
The impact of energy poverty on the aggregate and disaggregate material footprints in BRICS
This study aims to examine the impact of energy poverty on the aggregate and disaggregate material footprint components such as biomass, fossil fuel, metal ores and non-metallic minerals while considering the economic growth and tourism development during 2000–2014 for the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). By applying econometric tools, the study confirms a positive and significant impact of energy poverty on aggre…
Globalisation and carbon dioxide emissions inequality in OECD countries
Economic growth has been crucial in contributing to carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions from the Industrial Revolution, and it affects CO 2 emissions heterogeneously with different income levels. Therefore, studying the role of economic growth on inequality in carbon emissions is imperative. This paper analyses the determinants of CO 2 emissions inequality in the panel dataset of 37 Organisation for Economic Co‐operation and Development (OECD) count…

Do world uncertainty and income inequality moderate the efficacy of environmental innovation in driving global renewable energy generation
Environmental innovation is pivotal in tackling climate change by offering diverse and practical solutions to reduce carbon footprints, promote resource conservation, and enhance ecological sustainability. As anthropogenic activities continue to accelerate global environmental degradation, innovative solutions are imperative for mitigating the impacts of climate change and fostering sustainability. However, the effectiveness of these innovations …

Does Financial Development Induce Total Factor Productivity Growth in an Emerging Economy? The Role of Gender Human Capital
Drawing from neoclassical growth theories, this study explores the interplay between financial development, gender‐specific human capital, and total factor productivity (TFP) growth in India, addressing a gap in prior literature by examining their interactive effects on emerging economies' productivity trajectories. Employing the ARDL Bound test model, we estimate the productivity growth equation using annual data from 1980 to 2019. Variables suc…
Analyzing the impact of terrorism on tourism in Sri Lanka
While terrorism brings fear and chaos, tourism is the epitome of peace and happiness. Sri Lanka has always attracted international tourists due to tropical climate and beautiful tourist destinations. However, terrorism and the recent debt crisis have led to chaos and economic failure; in this study, the impact of terrorism, external debt, and military expenditure on international tourism in Sri Lanka have been empirically studied to unravel the d…

Revisiting the globalisation-welfare state Nexus
A large amount of literature examines the effects of globalisation on the size of the welfare state. Unlike previous papers, this article studies globalisation’s effects on the quality of social welfare. For this purpose, we use the annual panel dataset of 169 countries from 1970 to 2018. The findings indicate that a higher level of globalisation leads to a higher quality of the welfare state. This evidence is valid when the countries are divided…
The impact of technology frontier on the total factor productivity growth in African economies
This paper examines the impact of the technology frontier on the Total Factor Productivity (TFP) growth in African countries. The paper includes the human capital channel (i.e., low and high education) in the TFP growth function. The model also adds net foreign direct investment inflows and financial development as control variables. The long-run estimations indicate that the technology frontier hampers the TFP growth. The technology frontier adv…

Factors affecting domestic tourism spending in India
This study examines the factors affecting domestic households' tourism spending in India. The results from using the unconditional quantile regression method show that regular salary earners in India spend less on tourism. The likelihood of tourism spending increases with higher education. Female-headed households spend less on tourism than male-headed households, suggesting masculinity in controlling resources. Households at the lower quantile o…

Sustainable tourism development and globalization
Our study explores the relationship between tourism and globalization (both overall, and in terms of three sub‐indices, namely economic, social, and political globalization) in the United States (US) using monthly data from January 1995 to December 2017. We employ the quantile‐on‐quantile (QQ) regression technique for our analysis. The sample period of the present study allows the separate examination of the relationship between globalization and…

Factors influencing India's current account balance
Using annual data for the period 1980–1981 to 2014–2015, the study explores the impact of crude oil imports and real exchange rate on India's current account performance. Utilizing the recent co‐integration econometric tools on a current account balance model, the findings contrary to the theoretical prediction revealed that crude oil import significantly improves the current account balance in the long run. Furthermore, the fiscal balance and fi…
Factors driving financial development in top and bottom globalized developing economies
The “globalization‐led financial development” hypothesis of Mishkin (2009) postulates that globalization through the channel of institutional quality can improve financial development in developing economies. In this context, our study is motivated to examine the effects of economic globalization and institutional quality on financial development in top and bottom globalized developing countries using the panel data of 1984–2016. We consider a sa…
Technological innovation and environmental quality nexus in India
This article examines the relationships between technological innovation and environmental quality in India relying on the availability of annual data from 1980 to 2018. Both inward remittances and economic growth are also considered as key determinants in CO 2 emissions and technological innovation functions. The result from utilizing autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing cointegration approach indicates the existence of long‐run …
