    Soekarno was an Indonesian nationalist hero, first president and important figure in the Cold War‐era Third World Movement. He played a key role in the formulation of the Indonesian state ideology of Pancasila and in ending Indonesia's experiment with parliamentary democracy in the 1950s. He is still revered in Indonesia as a symbol of Indonesian nationalism.
