Predicting the precise shape and structure of legal education by the end of this decade is impossible; there are at present too many uncertainties, the implications of which cannot yet be foreseen. This very lack of certainty does, however, provide a freedom to speculate on what the future might hold. This paper argues that, despite the uncertainties, there are substantial opportunities ahead for professional legal educators. It will, however, be necessary for the leaders of this branch of the legal profession to offer a clear sense of vision as to what the future might be like, if they are to seize the opportunities that could lie ahead. This paper is divided into two sections. The first attempts to bring together the main factors which are likely to influence the structure of legal education in this country over the next decade; in Part II the implications of the analysis in Part I are drawn together in order to present a summary of the issues likely to shape legal education over the next decade
