Cet article presente les resultats preliminaires de la premiere saison de fouilles de l'ete 1998 dans la plaine d'Islamabad, dans le Zagros occidental et central. L'A presente le projet Islamabad puis la region. Il definit ensuite les objectifs, empiriques et specifiques, de ce projet. Il s'agit d'abord de localiser et d'enregistrer les sites les plus divers, d'en faire une carte archeologique et d'etablir la sequence ceramique de la plaine depuis sa production jusqu'aux epoques islamiques. Dans un second temps, il s'agit de collecter des donnees susceptibles d'apporter des informations concernant les implications de l'interaction homme-nature depuis les premieres occupations humaines a l'epoque islamique. Certaines periodes suscitent un interet particulier. Il complete cette etude par quelques remarques relatives a l'histoire de l'occupation de la plaine d'Islamabad puis termine en evoquant les prospections de la deuxieme saison
