The publication of Martin Heidegger ́s “Black Notebooks” has created quite a stir among scholars and an extraordinary media response. After the “Black Notebooks”, reading Heidegger requires to take into consideration a whole new dimension in his writings. Yet the philosophical and academic debate about what these texts entail for the evaluation of Heidegger ́s philosophy has only just begun. It has frequently been noticed that Jewish philosophers met Heidegger ́s work with great empathy. Was there a special closeness here, an affinity even? The "Black Notebooks" show that in a certain phase in the development of Heidegger ́s thinking antisemitic ideas besiege the "history of being". The "Protocols of the Elders of Zion," the primary source of modern and postmodern anti-Semitism, seem to play an important role in this. In his study, Peter Trawny explores the significance this philosophical oath of manifestation has for Heidegger's thinking in its entirety. This third edition is enhanced by a chapter "Annihilation and Self-Destruction" on the apocalyptic reduction of history in the "Black Notebooks".
