How older gay men go about cultivating psychological wellbeing (PWB) is informed by the intersections of complex contextual dynamics rooted in interlocking systems of oppression. • A lifetime of interpersonal and structural discrimination – compounded by the HIV/AIDS crisis greatly informs how older gay men go about cultivating PWB. • Meaningful social connections, greatly informed by the losses of the collective trauma of HIV/AIDS, is a key process to cultivating PWB. • Peer-led resources and services represent key supports to support the PWB of older gay men. • How the men in this study have come to a place of articulated contentment and gratitude, despite having endured formidable adversity over the course of their lives, warrants additional research
