This paper is concerned with Aboriginal political life at Doomadgee, a remote Settlement located in far north-west Queensland. The data indicate the centrality of three major theoretical issues: material inequality and class situation; the operation of authority; and status relations. In terms of the literature drawn on in analysis of these issues, the discussion below is concerned with aspects of the sociology of domination and stratification (or inequality)
