Whilst fan studies have historically underlined the positive aspects of fandom, fan practices are not devoid of negative aspects. Toxic fan practices are increasingly being studied by researchers, both French and international. Following suit, this Issue presents studies on toxic fandom from French-speaking researchers. These articles have been organized into three main themes: one dedicated to case studies of toxic behaviours, one to ethical questions and one to the relationship between politics and fans. These works share some similarities: online methodologies to collect data, online fieldwork and contemporary topics. Hence, this Issue presents different yet complementary perspectives on fans’ toxic practices
