Narrative data or reflective narratives (RNs) represent a vital qualitative data. This kind of data captures the subjective, self-reflexive, and contextually embedded experiences of individuals on any specific phenomenon. RNs have widespread use in the field of education, nursing, social work, and counselling and in almost all qualitative methodologies. Yet, RNs are under-explained especially for novice researchers. Therefore, this study addresses the gap of the scarcity of clear foundational guidance on using RNs as qualitative research data. By doing literature review-based discussion, the paper defines RNs, systematically outlines their defining features, maps out their diverse methodological applications, details strategies for collecting and analyzing RN data, and finally critically discusses limitations of RNs as data. Thus, the paper serves as an accessible guide for novice researchers engaged in qualitative research in diverse fields
