The effect of spiritual counselling based on the Sound Heart model on prehospital emergency personnel’s spiritual health

The existing body of knowledge regarding the role of spiritual counselling in the spiritual health in emergency medical services (EMS) is limited and fragmented. This study investigated the effects of a spiritual counselling based on the Sound Heart model on the spiritual health of EMS personnel. This quasi-experimental study included 60 EMS personnel. The intervention group received spiritual counselling based on the Sound Heart model for one month, whereas the control group received no spiritual intervention. The Paloutzian and Ellison Spiritual Well-Being Scale was administered to all participants at baseline and immediately after the end of the intervention. The Sound Heart model significantly improved the mean scores for religious, existential, and spiritual health in the intervention group. Furthermore, a significant difference in spiritual health scores was observed between the intervention and control groups (p < .001). The EMS personnel's spiritual health was average and the Sound Heart model programme significantly enhanced it.
