The Muratorian Fragment is a discursive list of early Christian books which its author claims are, or may be, received by the Catholic Church. Its traditional dating to the latter half of the second century or beginning of the third, thus providing the earliest “canon list” of New Testament books, has, however, been forcefully challenged by scholars who view it as a product of the late fourth‐century east. Settling this question can have noteworthy effects for understanding the stages of the development of the New Testament Canon.
