Harold D. Lasswell (1902–1978) made groundbreaking contributions to political science, public policy analysis, political psychology, jurisprudence, and futures studies, based on his advances in the theory and methods of communications. The intertwined aspects of Lasswell's normative commitment, research approaches, and theories demonstrate his contributions in systematizing and integrating conventional and psychodynamic theories about the connections between communications and political dynamics. This was accomplished through the analysis of propaganda, legal communications, attention structures, content analysis, developmental constructs, symbols, psychodynamic displacement, and the triple‐appeal principle.
